About

Utile had spent a decade building a reputation as one of Boston’s most rigorous and wide-ranging design practices. Their work spans the full scale of the architecture environment: citywide housing policy, neighborhood master plans, civic buildings, interiors, and graphic design. When Utile refreshed their brand identity in-house in 2024, the moment to rebuild the site arrived naturally.

strategy

Utile’s clients — municipal governments, civic institutions, real estate developers — don’t arrive cold from a Google search. They arrive already knowing the firm. The site’s role is to validate that instinct and give them a reason to keep looking.

That distinction shaped every decision. We weren’t building a lead-generation machine. We were building a showcase — one designed to impress the kind of sophisticated audiences who respond to awards submissions, editorial press, and peer recommendations. The goal was to clear away everything in the way of the projects and let the work speak.

T&F developed three distinct design directions, each interpreting Utile’s refreshed brand identity into a different digital expression. Each direction started from the same style guide — the same typography, palette, and graphic sensibility that Utile’s in-house team had developed — but proposed a different logic for how that identity should live on screen.
